In March, we had the pleasure of touring central Virginia. Before VALOR, I always thought that central Virginia was just metro-Richmond, but I quickly learned that it includes a much larger section of Virginia, including Charlottesville and nearby localities. Set against the backdrop of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, this area has proven to be perfect for Agri-tourism.
Many agricultural enterprises have either started or been rejuvenated by making their operations open to the public to view, tour, and eat + drink what is produced on site.
We toured vineyards, breweries, cideries, and “U-pick” farms where tourists pay to do the labor of picking fruit! It was great to see producers of all backgrounds and ages embracing new sales channels in order to ensure that their enterprises will be successful in the future.
