Miriam Thomas is the Education Outreach Coordinator for the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom. A former public-school teacher, Miriam comes from a long line of “farmers, teachers, nurses, and preachers.” In this role, she has been able to join her passions for education and agriculture.
Miriam earned her teaching degree from Radford University. During her time teaching in the City of Richmond, she began using AITC resources, receiving grants for grade level projects, and winning the 2022 Teacher of the Year award. As the Education Outreach Coordinator, she enjoys guest instructing pre-service teachers at Virginia universities, leading professional development for educators, creating SOL-aligned lessons and materials, working with volunteers, and participating in community events.
Her favorite role is being mom to Blake and Boston! They live in Henrico with their dog (Bruno), cat (Luke), and chinchilla (Chi-Chi). The family shares a love of travel and exploring, cooking and eating, having fun and resting. Their opinions on reading for pleasure vary.
This exciting VALOR experience will allow Miriam to meet more of Virginia’s farmers, ag industry experts, and fellow ag advocates. The knowledge she gains will be shared with educators and students across our great state, thereby continuing to bridge the gap between farmers, ag industries, and consumers
