Agriculture has an impact on every person in the world. There are so many facets, that I sincerely believe a person could be immersed in the field a lifetime and only touch the surface of the many dimensions, opportunities, and experiences available in Agriculture.
Americans often take for granted having safe and healthy, high quality, economical, and abundant food readily available for us to enjoy. We often overlook what it takes to get that product to the table. There is not a magic “agricultural fairy” that gets the food to shelves for us to purchase. Many overlook the farmer who devotes numerous hours, with no billable “overtime”, who is on the ground raising the plants and animals that in turn become our food and fiber (cloth, paper, lumber, etc) at our favorite market.
What I want to share with you is that there are over 300 different careers in Agriculture. These careers encompass art, science, and business activities concerned with the production, processing, distribution, and marketing of plants, animals, and natural resources. If you have an interest in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or biotechnology you might be interested in an Agricultural Career.
There are over 21 million American Workers that produce, sell and trade our nations food and fiber products. American Agriculture is the world’s largest commercial industry with assets of nearly 1 trillion dollars. There are currently 400,000 careers available each and every year and only 100,000 being filled.
Meaning that there are opportunities in Agriculture waiting for YOU!
