How do we effectively communicate to people?

One answer to this question was provided by Mr. David Hughes, a poultry farmer whose farm demonstrated excellent animal care and overall commitment to trusted poultry practices.  We had dinner with him and he shared his story about his wife’s passing.  Mr. Hughes was asked “how was it best to communicate to him during his time of emotional trauma?”

He shared that you have to have a trusted relationship with someone when it comes to “entering” their private emotional/communication space.  This is important to know because the common notion perhaps taught to us by our families is to mind your own business.  As leaders, it is important to understand that at some point you will have to initiate sensitive communication with someone.

Perhaps VALOR can serve as a practice ground to enhance our leadership communication skills and courage.  We have seven sessions left–try it!
