Yes, the title of this post is a reference to the 1978 buddy detective classic that paired Tom Selleck and Jerry Reed as two range proven Private Eyes in Nashville, TN. My name is Cliff Williamson, and I am a fan.
I am also a resident of Culpeper, Va. I grew up there on a horse boarding and training operation owned and operated by my parents with my younger sister. I was an active 4-Her, a 3 sport athlete, and pined for the days I would become a Hokie.
When I did get to Blacksburg, I followed in my parents footsteps and joined Alpha Gamma Rho, Block and Bridle, and Young Farmers. I was heavily involved with club activities, worked on the campus farm, and occasionally pursued my education. I graduated in 2008 with a B.S. in Animal and Poultry Science.
After graduation I joined the Peace Corps and moved to Nicaragua. I worked there as a Food Security Volunteer, specializing in livestock health and nutrition. I worked on a number of different projects in my small community including reforestation, community banking and alternative cooking fuels. I worked there until 2011.
After my 2 years of service I returned to Culpeper and had the opportunity to work as a shipboard stock-man on trans-Atlantic voyages aboard a livestock ship. I assisted a veterinarian with animal health and welfare while American cattle were shipped to Turkey and Russia. This job led to different opportunities in the livestock export industry, and me starting my own consulting company, Williamson Livestock Logistics. Today I manage domestic livestock export responsibilities for a Virginia based firm based in Culpeper, and I get to travel the world promoting American cattle quality and supply.
I am excited about VALOR for two reasons. Personally, this opportunity provides a chance to experience Virginia products with people involved in that production, particularly those products outside of my livestock centric experience. Professionally, we will be learning skills and abilities that will make me a more efficient and more effective ambassador of American agriculture and Virginia products.
Thanks for reading, here’s a gift. The magic of Jerry Reed and Tom Selleck.
