A few years back Guy Clark postulated that there are only two things that money can’t buy, true love and home grown tomatoes. I suppose there is some wisdom in that but the times they are a changin’.
I can assure you that all over Virginia, and other places throughout the nation, money CAN buy home grown tomatoes. Farmers markets from Big Stone Gap to Hillsville to Gloucester to the Northern Neck are flourishing. One can buy not only tomatoes but corn and squash and green beans along with a plethora of wholesome farm fresh vegetables. Fresh from the patch to the table… Mmmmm… Good!!!
Find the market in your neighborhood and enjoy the goodness. After all, Momma was right when she said, “Eat your vegetables, they’re good for you.”
As for the true love part, well Virginia is for Lovers you know. It’s getting close to lunch and I am thinking a cornbread with tomato and mayo.
Just sayin…
