A cotton engine commonly referred to as a “cotton gin” patented by Eli Whitney in 1794 revolutionized cotton production. Having just had an opportunity to “gin” some cotton by hand I have a new appreciation for the significance of Mr. Whitney’s cotton gin.

Having grown up in Southwest Virginia I have never had an opportunity to learn about cotton production. As part of our VALOR trip to the Tidewater area of Virginia I finally got the opportunity… WOW !!! who knew that there was so much to know about cotton. My hat is off to cotton producers everywhere and of course a special thanks to Mr. Whitney, VALOR and to Commonwealth Gin for providing that opportunity.
