On our recent trip to the Tidewater region of Virginia, we visited the Commonwealth Cotton Gin in Windsor, VA. This is a family-owned business run by brothers Tom and Len Alphin. The gin is rooted in the community and has a rich history in the cotton industry. The Alphins take a fascinating approach to their work, focusing on the quality of their cotton and the industry’s sustainability.
Their family dynamic is truly inspiring! Their sons, Bruce and Chris Alphin, represent the third generation keeping this business alive. It was inspiring to witness their teamwork and commitment to the industry.
In addition to the Alphin family, we had the privilege of meeting Johnny Parker, their Cotton Agronomist, who has been making significant strides in the industry and working for them since 1994. Johnny’s expertise and passion for cotton farming have not only benefited the Alphin family but have also contributed positively to the broader cotton industry.
Overall, our visit to Commonwealth Cotton Gin was an enriching experience. It highlighted the dedication of families like the Alphins, who work tirelessly for the good of their family, community, and industry. We returned from this trip with a renewed appreciation for the hard work that goes into every fiber of cotton, which we often take for granted.
