Embracing Agriculture

Hello, I’m Sarah Wilson, a proud Virginia native. While I was born and raised on my family’s beef cattle farm in Lebanon, VA, I now live in Abingdon, VA. Growing up on a farm has shaped my life in ways I never could have imagined. The values and work ethic I learned from this environment have stayed with me throughout my life.

My passion for agriculture began on my family farm in Russell County, where I developed a love for farming and animal care at a young age. After earning a degree in Animal Science from Virginia Tech, I spent nine years exploring a career outside of agriculture. However, when my second child was born, I was able to return to the farm. Now my husband and I are raising our children on the farm and living a lifestyle that is both fulfilling and meaningful. We take great pride in being part of the 2% of Americans who sustain the agricultural backbone of our country.

I enjoy educating others about agriculture, especially the younger generation. The future of agriculture depends on them, and I believe it’s essential to help them understand and appreciate the hard work and innovation that goes into our industry. To better advocate for agriculture, I am committed to expanding my knowledge and making a positive impact on our agricultural community.

I’m excited to be part of the VALOR program, which offers incredible opportunities for professional growth and leadership development in agriculture. I believe this program will help me strengthen my voice as an advocate for agriculture. Through VALOR, I look forward to networking with industry experts, fellow leaders, and potential collaborators. As a part of this program, I hope to exchange ideas and learn from others’ experiences as we work together to strengthen and promote agriculture in Virginia and beyond!
