Kari Sponaugle has been the Extension 4-H Youth Development Agent for Highland and Bath Counties since 2013. Being a product of the Highland 4-H program, from helping to raise market lamb projects on her grandfather’s farm, participating in Share-the-Fun Dance and Presentations contests as well as being tapped a Virginia 4-H All-Star in 2004, it seemed the perfect fit. Kari received her B.S. degree from Ferrum College in 2010 and a Master of Science in Agricultural Leadership and Community Education from Virginia Tech in 2016. Kari and husband Michael are co-owners of Church Hill Produce in Highland County, growing 25 acres of fresh produce each season. From raspberries for a cidery, strawberries for U-Pick and farmers’ markets, to truckloads of summer and fall squash for Food Lion and Giant, their farm has local as well as wholesale markets. Kari & Michael, with sons Jasper and Clu, live on the family’s farm which grows turkeys for Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative and a 200-head cow-calf operation.
