Kari Sponaugle is the Extension 4-H Youth Development Agent with VCE Highland and Bath Counties. Kari received holds a B.S. degree from Ferrum College and a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Leadership and Community Education from Virginia Tech. Kari was recently promoted from Associate to Extension Agent after receiving her masters degree. Kari and husband Michael are co-owners of Church Hill Produce. Since 2011, they have cultivated a successful fresh produce business growing from 8 acres in the beginning to 25 total acres in current production. From raspberries for a local cidery to 100 boxes of summer squash for a warehouse in Richmond, their business includes local and wholesale markets. The farm completed Harmonized-GAP certification in 2018 opening more avenues for sales including name brand grocery chains. The Sponaugle’s live on the family farm in Doe Hill, which includes a 200 cow-calf operation and grows turkeys for Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative. Kari and Michael have two sons, Jasper and Clu, and a blue heeler named Amos.
